Tis one is over 1 block & up . All the streets were blocked with trees. We couldn’t get out of our neighborhood for two days because of the fallen trees. At least we didn’t loss any cars like this poor guy. Three of their four got crunched.

Our Governor declared a “State of Emergency” in advance of this storm.

I apologize for not visiting YOU. My dear friends.
We have been preparing and helping friends, for the last three days
Having been through the Ice Storm of 2007, we at least have fresh in our minds what we need to do, plus all the TV stations are blasting what needs done.
We don’t have a generator, if we loose power… well, in 2007 we were powerless for ten days. I will definitely be going through Flickr withdrawals. 
Sitting around a radio took me back to my youth. And I can cook ANYTHING on charcoal.

7:08am,cst, the storm is upon us. It begins.
It is 32*F and the rain has just begun. The freezing temps from the north are still pushing south and the Rain from the south is marching north. Its going to be a very rough few days. If it drops below freezing, it will be devastating.. Its predicted to get down in the teens and not warm above freezing before Monday. But hey, Mondays forecasted high is 50*F.. We will be warm in front of the radio.
Ice storms make for some amazing photo opps. If I venture out. My snow boots mysteriously returned to where I keep them, but they are not that great on ice … nothing is… except steal cleets.

On the bright side, in 2007, we cleaned out every closet in the house, half the basement. And a good portion of the garage. Its amazing what can get done without technology in your face. But I AM addicted to TV. And its not my house, (which I have been reminded of on rare arguments), unless we are under a State of Emergency. Then they look to me for “how did you do ___ without electricity”. LOL. They are very happy I kept my antique perk-o-lator, gotta have coffee.

We have stocked up on,
Batteries – must have radio
aspirin – amazing the # of headaches you get without power
lamp oil & candles – for reading and games, remember those.
kerosene – for space heaters if needed
canned meat – oh yummy
Sugar free Colas – a must.
Ice melt and rock salt. And windshield deicer – We’re not going anywhere but we got ‘em.
All the laundry is done. – that was tough. Blankets, blankets, blankets… everyone complained about the mothball blankets 2 years ago.

Dog-gone, I forgot my little cigars ..I’m okay, I just need one a day. Can’t miss my time with Morgan.
Well, it looks like I’m free to surf until we loose power… If we loose power.
Saddle up for the ride.

I have been tagged thrice now, but 30 facts simply isn’t going to happen. So, here’s 20:
1. I am but 15 years of age.
2. I am a sophmore in highschool.
3. I am affectionately (maybe not?) known as a turbo-nerd.
4. My hobbies include Lego, computer programming, setting up websites/networks for my school, reading (a lot!), hiking, and computer games (recovering WoW addict, SC2, Halo 1, Portal 1/2, Black Ops, MINECRAFT =D)
5. My favorite programming language is one that my friend and I are creating at the moment, but the one that I know the best is Java (HTML for web coding).
6. I am building a computer and it is draining all of my Lego money =X
7. I am 6’2”.
8. Despite my lack of coordination, I play volleyball mainly due to my height.
9. I am taking 5 college classes and one honors class next year. (*scared*)
10. I hope to go to college and get a degree in Theoretical Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Architecture, or Computer Science. (Long list, I know…)
11. I went into First Grade early, so now I won’t be able to drive for almost a year after my classmates.
12. None of my real life friends enjoy Lego to the extent that I do. =/
13.My mom just bought a new car today, it’s a Honda CRV and it looks really cool!
14. I spend almost an hour every night sitting on my roof watching the stars.
15. I can spend hours just sitting and thinking very happily. Most people find that very odd.
16. I have little to no artistic talent in any medium, but I design amazing spaceships in my mind…Too bad I can never put them on paper.
17. I am going to New York in a few weeks, and will visit a Lego store for the first time. The PaB wall will be ravaged.
18. 8 is my favorite number, because it reminds me of infinity.
19. I hope to build some spaceships in Lego, as they are my real passion, but they never come out in a way that I am pleased with. Maybe I’ll post some soon.
20. Whew, done. That was tough!

Those of you who follow me in other spaces are probably already aware
of my frustration & fury over the ill-informed policies of Facebook
and Google Plus to require use of a person’s legal name on their
services. As someone who has been trying to provide support to
underserved and marginalized communities and individuals for most of
my professional career (as in decades), I am intimately aware of the
dangers of being forced to use a name that might make you a target or
which might convey unnecessary information about you to those who have
no business knowing it. Others have ably pointed out how this sort of
policy effectively empowers the identity thieves and stalkers more
than it protects anyone. And others have pointed out that the
liability for privacy invasions committed via these services should
really rest with the service that forced use of the public name.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if victims of identity theft started suing
Facebook?

With Google having announced that people who don’t follow their naming
guidelines have four days to get their affairs in order, this is
particularly timely.

Google proves that they (a) don’t get it, (b) don’t care, and (c) have
no problem being the bully in grade school classroom who sucks up to
the teacher when they are watching. I am normally a huge Google fan,
but this is just too too profoundly distressing for me. That they are
entirely willing to compromise safety of victims and marginalized
persons for some vague possibility of a benefit they are unable to
clearly articulate and for which there is insufficient evidence to
justify. If this was a healthcare situation and a clinician pressed a
patient to accept a treatment with similar levels of evidence that
clinician would be at high risk of losing his license.

I was bored at work and just wondering if anyone knows any legitimate sites where you can play games for points…that you can, in turn, redeem for prizes or cash? I don’t want to sign up for a bunch of stuff…but I would love to have a reason to play games. Haha =)

That site is great for exactly what you are talking about. I have been playing on their for months and have already redeemed $ 20 worth of gift cards from playing casual games.

The way it works is that there is a regular member and premium member section. Every one earns ‘Skill Tokens’ that can be redeemed for cash, gift cards, prizes, ect.

If you are a premium members you can play for cash against other players in the community and win money instantly.

This is probably the easiest and best place to play and win prizes by playing skill games that I have found on the net.
